ACCESS CHARGE
A fee charged subscribers or
other telephone companies by a local exchange carrier
for the use of its local exchange networks.
Access Line Charge
A
one-time fee charged as a result of a customer's request
for the installation or move of the telephone line
located between the phone company's central office and
the customer's home, e.g., the installation of a second
line.
Adjustments
Credits or debits to your account. Often, adjustments
are used to correct errors, or to debit or credit
accounts for items such as bank fees, service
connections, or service interruptions.
Americans with Disabilities Act Surcharge
Ordered by the Public Service Commission to fund the
relay service for hearing and speech impaired customers.
Depending on the state you live in, this surcharge is
also known as Telecommunications Relay Surcharge or
Telecommunications Access System Act Surcharge.
ANALOG SIGNAL
A signaling method that uses
continuous changes in the amplitude or frequency of a
radio transmission to convey information.
Basic Local Service
The
charge for basic telephone dial tone service.
BANDWIDTH
The capacity of a telecom line to
carry signals. The necessary bandwidth is the amount of
spectrum required to transmit the signal without
distortion or loss of information. FCC rules require
suppression of the signal outside the band to prevent
interference.
BROADBAND
Broadband is a descriptive term
for evolving digital technologies that provide consumers
a signal switched facility offering integrated access to
voice, high-speed data service, video-demand services,
and interactive delivery services.
